Rajasthan Police have arrested Anuradha Paswan, a 23-year-old woman accused of marrying 25 men in seven months
In a case that sounds straight out of a Bollywood thriller, Rajasthan Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Anuradha Paswan, for allegedly marrying 25 men across multiple states in just seven months. Dubbed the “loot-and-scoot bride”, Paswan orchestrated a sophisticated marriage scam, targeting desperate grooms and fleeing with their valuables shortly after the wedding.
The scam came to light after Vishnu Sharma, a resident of Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, filed a police complaint on May 3, claiming he had been duped by Paswan. Investigators soon uncovered a larger network of fraudsters operating through WhatsApp-based matchmaking services, charging men between ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh for arranged marriages.

How the Marriage Scam Worked
Paswan’s modus operandi was both cunning and calculated:
- She posed as an ideal bride, complete with legal documentation.
- She married her victims, winning their trust and settling into their homes.
- Within 5-7 days, she vanished overnight, taking cash, gold, and electronics.
- She then married another man, repeating the cycle across different states.
Police revealed that Paswan was part of a well-connected gang that preyed on bachelors from small towns, promising them quick marriages through matchmaking agents.
The Investigation & Arrest
The scam was exposed after Vishnu Sharma paid ₹2 lakh to two agents, Sunita and Pappu Meena, to arrange his marriage. Sharma married Paswan on April 20, 2025, but by May 2, she had fled with his valuables.
Rajasthan Police launched a sting operation, planting an undercover constable posing as a prospective groom. When an agent shared Paswan’s photo, officers tracked her down to Bhopal and arrested her before she could con another victim.
Police have identified several other suspects involved in the operation, including individuals named Roshni, Raghubir, Golu, Majboot Singh Yadav, and Arjan, all hailing from various neighborhoods in Bhopal.
Public Reaction & Legal Consequences
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for stricter laws against marriage fraud.
- Social media erupted, with users comparing Paswan’s story to the Bollywood film Dolly Ki Doli, where a con bride marries multiple men and flees with their wealth.
- Legal experts suggest Paswan could face charges under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.
- Victims are demanding compensation, with some claiming they borrowed money to pay matchmaking agents.
Conclusion
The arrest of Anuradha Paswan has exposed a deep-rooted marriage scam, highlighting the dangers of fraudulent matchmaking services. As police continue their investigation, victims hope for justice and stricter regulations to prevent such scams in the future.
