Kolkata woman abducted and gang-raped by two friends on her birthday
A Celebration That Turned Into a Nightmare
Kolkata Woman Abducted and Gang-Raped by Two Friends – What was supposed to be a joyful birthday celebration for a 20-year-old woman from Haridevpur, Kolkata, turned into a horrifying crime that has shaken the city. On the night of September 5, 2025, the woman was invited by two acquaintances – Chandan Mallick and Deep Biswas to celebrate her birthday at a flat in the upscale Regent Park area.
According to her police complaint, Chandan had befriended her a few months earlier, claiming to be the head of a prominent Durga Puja committee. Through him, she met Deep, a government employee. The two men promised to involve her in the committee’s activities and gained her trust over time.
On her birthday, they invited her to Deep’s flat for a meal and celebration. But once inside, the tone changed. When she tried to leave, the men allegedly locked the door, assaulted her, and gang-raped her. She managed to escape the next morning around 10:30 AM and informed her family, who immediately took her to the Haridevpur Police Station to file an FIR.
Police Investigation and Manhunt Underway
Following the complaint, the Kolkata Police launched a full-scale manhunt to locate the accused, who are currently absconding. The FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of abduction, sexual assault and unlawful confinement.
Police sources confirmed that both accused had gone missing shortly after the incident. Officers are visiting the crime scene near Malancha, collecting evidence, and conducting medical examinations of the survivor. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of Chandan Mallick and Deep Biswas to come forward.
The case has sparked outrage across the city, with many questioning how such a brutal crime could happen in a residential area under the guise of friendship and celebration.
Public Reaction and Rising Concerns Over Women’s Safety
This incident has reignited serious concerns about women’s safety in Kolkata. While the city has often been ranked among the safest metros for women, recent cases suggest a troubling rise in crimes against women. Just months ago, a law student was allegedly raped on her college campus, and last year, a trainee doctor was murdered after being sexually assaulted.
Citizens, activists, and public figures have taken to social media to demand swift justice and stronger preventive measures. Many are calling for better surveillance in residential areas, stricter background checks for community leaders, and more support systems for survivors.
The betrayal by trusted acquaintances has added a layer of emotional trauma to the case, highlighting how emotional manipulation and false promises can be used to lure victims into dangerous situations.
Legal Action and Survivor Support
As the investigation continues, the focus now shifts to ensuring justice for the survivor. Legal experts say the case could move quickly if the accused are arrested soon. The survivor’s statement, medical evidence, and digital records from the flat will play a key role in building the case.
Support groups in Kolkata have reached out to offer counseling and legal aid to the survivor. Police have assured that her identity will be protected, and she will receive all necessary assistance during the trial.
Meanwhile, the city watches closely as law enforcement works to track down the accused and bring them to justice. The case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that can hide behind familiar faces and the urgent need to strengthen trust, safety, and accountability in our communities.
The Kolkata birthday gang-rape case is not just a crime, it’s a wake-up call. It exposes the cracks in our social fabric where trust can be exploited and safety can be compromised. As the survivor bravely steps forward, the city must respond with empathy, action and reform. Justice must not only be delivered, it must be seen, felt, and remembered.
