The government’s strategy aims to increase domestic manufacturing, reduce dependency on foreign imports, and enhance India’s global defence exports. Singh highlighted that India’s defence exports, which stood at ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25, are expected to reach ₹50,000 crore by 2029.
Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Defence
Singh reiterated that India’s defence sector is now a pillar of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with advanced weapons, missiles, and tanks being manufactured domestically. The country has successfully developed indigenous missiles like Agni, Prithvi, and BrahMos, along with aircraft carriers such as INS Vikrant.
Government Initiatives and Budget Allocation
To support this vision, the government has:
- Increased the defence budget from ₹2.53 lakh crore in FY 2013-14 to ₹6.22 lakh crore in FY 2024-25.
- Reserved 75% of the budget for capital procurement from domestic companies.
- Issued 10 Positive Indigenisation Lists, covering over 5,500 items
Strengthening National Security
Singh also addressed the growing threat of information warfare, urging citizens to act as “social soldiers” by countering misinformation. He cited Operation Sindoor, where Pakistan attempted to demoralize Indian forces using fake videos and manipulated news.
