The Morcha has formally written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging disciplinary action. Fernandes emphasized that the Christian community does not support forced conversions, and that painting the entire faith with a broad brush is both unfair and inflammatory.
“I intend to personally meet Mr. Padalkar to express the concerns of the community,” Fernandes added.
Meanwhile, legal experts and opposition leaders argue that Padalkar’s speech violates multiple constitutional provisions, including Articles 14, 15, 25, and 26, and is punishable under Sections 153A, 295A, and 505 of the IPC.

The controversy has reignited debate over religious freedom and anti-conversion laws. The Archdiocese of Bombay expressed deep concern over a proposed law by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, warning that it could foster division and target vulnerable communities.

This incident also highlights a troubling trend: 947 hate-related incidents were recorded between June 2024 and June 2025, with 345 targeting Christian and Muslim communities.
