Flight LH752, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, had taken off from Frankfurt at 2:14 PM local time and was scheduled to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at 1:30 AM IST. However, the aircraft made a U-turn over Bulgarian airspace, returning to Frankfurt around 5:30 PM local time.
Lufthansa Airlines confirmed the diversion, stating:
“Out of an abundance of caution, Lufthansa flight LH752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure after authorities were made aware of a bomb threat posted on social media.”
Passengers Stranded as Authorities Investigate
The sudden diversion left hundreds of passengers stranded in Frankfurt, with Lufthansa arranging overnight accommodation for affected travelers.
A passenger onboard described the confusion:
“We were told about two hours after takeoff that we would be returning to Frankfurt. At the airport, Lufthansa provided accommodation for the night and told us that we would depart again Monday morning at 10 AM on the same flight.”
Security agencies are now investigating the source of the bomb threat, determining whether it was credible or a hoax. The Federal Police in Germany and Indian aviation authorities are working together to assess the situation.
Rising Aviation Security Concerns
This incident follows a series of aviation security scares, including a Delhi-bound Air India flight forced to return to Phuket Airport due to a bomb threat.
Experts warn that social media-based threats are becoming increasingly common, leading to disruptions and heightened security measures. Airlines are now reevaluating their emergency response protocols, ensuring that passenger safety remains the top priority.
As investigations continue, passengers and aviation authorities alike are left wondering: Was this a real threat, or another alarming hoax disrupting global travel?
