The Drug Racket Unveiled
The investigation revealed that Gunashekar had been orchestrating drug deals, leveraging his position in law enforcement to evade suspicion. The racket involved sourcing cocaine and ephedrine from unknown contacts, transporting them from Addanki in Bapatla district to Kukatpally in Hyderabad.
Police intercepted the group near Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, while they were searching for buyers. The operation led to the seizure of 820 grams of cocaine-ephedrine mix, valued at Rs 1 crore.
The Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities arrested Unnam Surendra alias Suri, Dothireddy Haribabu Reddy, Chegudi Mercy Margaret, Shaik Masthan Vali, and Devaraju Yesu Babu, all natives of Andhra Pradesh. Another accused, Appanna, a known drug peddler from Bangalore, is also on the run.
According to police reports, Gunashekar had proposed the sale of ephedrine to make quick profits. Surendra, attracted by the idea, conspired with his associates to distribute the drug in Hyderabad, where demand was high.
How the Racket Operated
The accused had carefully planned their operations, ensuring minimal exposure. Surendra collected 820 grams of the drug from Gunashekar in Tirupati and traveled to Hyderabad via Guntur. The group assembled at Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, intending to distribute the contraband.
However, their suspicious movements caught the attention of Cyberabad Special Operation Teams (SOT), leading to their arrest. Police seized a digital weighing machine and five mobile phones, which were used to coordinate the drug deals.
The Role of Gunashekar, A Betrayal of Duty
Gunashekar’s involvement in the racket has shaken the Andhra Pradesh Police Department. As a Task Force constable, he was entrusted with maintaining law and order. Instead, he allegedly exploited his position to facilitate drug trafficking.
His criminal activities have raised concerns about corruption within law enforcement, prompting calls for stricter background checks and monitoring of personnel.
Public Reaction and Police Response
The revelation has sparked public outrage, with citizens demanding swift action against Gunashekar and his associates. The Cyberabad Police have assured that efforts are underway to track down the absconding constable and dismantle the remaining network.
Authorities have urged parents to monitor their children’s activities and report any suspicious behavior. The case has also highlighted the growing drug menace in Hyderabad, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of anti-drug laws.
Conclusion
The exposure of an AP constable as a drug racket kingpin underscores the urgent need for accountability within law enforcement. While the arrests mark a significant breakthrough, the hunt for Gunashekar continues. As Hyderabad grapples with the rising drug crisis, authorities must strengthen surveillance, enforce stricter regulations, and ensure that those entrusted with public safety do not betray their duty.
