Bihar’s Moral Stand: Women Unite in Peaceful Bandh for PM Modi’s Honour
What Is Happening on September 4?
Bihar Women Lead Bold Protest on September 4 Against Insults to PM Modi – On Thursday, September 4, 2025, Bihar will witness a state-wide bandh (shutdown) from 7 AM to 12 Noon, called by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This protest is being led by the BJP Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The bandh is a response to alleged derogatory remarks made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an opposition rally held in Darbhanga last week.
The NDA has clarified that this bandh is symbolic and peaceful, aimed at expressing moral outrage rather than causing public inconvenience. To ensure that daily life is not disrupted, emergency services such as hospitals, ambulances, and railways will continue to operate normally.
This bandh is not just a political move—it is being described as a moral stand for dignity and respect, especially for mothers and women across the country.
Why Are Women Leading the Protest?
The most striking feature of this bandh is that it is being led by women. The BJP Mahila Morcha has taken charge of organizing and leading the demonstrations across Bihar. According to NDA leaders, this decision was made to honor the dignity of mothers and women, which they believe was insulted during the opposition’s rally.
During the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, a video surfaced showing a man allegedly using abusive language against PM Modi and his late mother. The video went viral and sparked widespread condemnation. NDA leaders, including JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha, called the remarks “morally and politically wrong” and criticized the opposition for not issuing an apology.
BJP Bihar president Dilip Jaiswal stated that the protest is not just about one individual, it is about defending the honour of all mothers. “This is the first time in Bihar that a bandh will be led by women to uphold the dignity of mothers and sisters,” he said.
What Triggered the Outrage?
The controversy began during a rally in Darbhanga, where Congress leaders were participating in the Voter Adhikar Yatra. A man, reportedly draped in a Congress flag, was seen on stage making abusive comments about PM Modi and his late mother. Although no senior Congress leaders were present at the time, the incident caused a political storm.
The man in the video was later identified as Mohammad Rizvi, a local resident, and was arrested by the Darbhanga police. NDA leaders have since demanded an apology from the opposition, calling the incident “indecent, shameful, and unacceptable.”
Prime Minister Modi also responded to the incident, saying, “Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect. I had not even imagined what happened a few days ago in this tradition-rich Bihar.” He described the remarks as an affront to women across the country.
What Will Be Open and What Will Be Closed?
The bandh will be observed for five hours, from 7 AM to 12 Noon, and will be peaceful in nature. The NDA has assured that essential services will remain unaffected, including:
- Hospitals and Ambulances
- Railway Operations
- Emergency Facilities and Critical Infrastructure
Shops, schools, and non-essential offices may remain closed during the bandh, depending on local decisions. The NDA has appealed to the public to support the protest and join in expressing solidarity with the cause.
This bandh is not just about politics, it’s about respect, values, and the role of women in society. By placing women at the forefront, the NDA aims to send a strong message that dignity and decency must be upheld in public discourse.
