ITM GIDA Gorakhpur girls designed a smart Defense Rakhi with GPS and Bluetooth for soldiers
August 9, 2025
ITM GIDA Gorakhpur Girls – In a heartwarming blend of tradition and technology, students from the Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), GIDA, Gorakhpur have crafted a unique tribute to India’s armed forces: the “Defense Rakhi.” This innovative creation goes beyond symbolic brotherhood—it’s a functional prototype designed to support soldiers on the front lines.

What Is a Defense Rakhi?
The Defense Rakhi is not just a decorative thread. It’s a wearable tech device embedded with:
- Bluetooth and GPS modules
- Microphone and microprocessor
- Trigger button for remote weapon control
Designed with the help of ITM’s Innovation Cell, the rakhi aims to provide soldiers with an extra layer of support and connectivity while stationed at the borders.
The Minds Behind the Mission
The initiative was led by female students of ITM GIDA, who wanted to combine the emotional significance of Raksha Bandhan with a practical tool for national defense. Their goal was simple yet profound: to show that even a festival rooted in tradition can evolve to serve modern needs.
“We wanted to create something that not only symbolizes protection but also offers real-time utility to our soldiers,” said one of the student innovators.
Raksha Bandhan with a Purpose
Raksha Bandhan, traditionally celebrated as a bond between siblings, takes on a deeper meaning when extended to the protectors of the nation. By sending these Defense Rakhis to soldiers, the students are expressing gratitude, solidarity, and a commitment to national service.
The timing couldn’t be more poignant, Raksha Bandhan falls on August 10 this year, and the Defense Rakhi initiative is already gaining attention across social media and news platforms.

Innovation Meets Patriotism
This isn’t the first time ITM GIDA students have made headlines. In 2024, two BCA students from the same institute developed the “Nirbhay Ring Gun”—a wearable defense gadget for women that could fire blank rounds and send emergency alerts via Bluetooth.
Such projects reflect a growing culture of socially conscious innovation among India’s youth, especially in Tier-2 cities like Gorakhpur.
Institutional Support
Dr. N.K. Singh, Director of ITM GIDA, praised the students’ creativity and commitment:
“These small ideas can solve big problems. The Defense Rakhi is a symbol of how technology and tradition can come together to serve society.”
The students were felicitated by the institute’s leadership, including President Neeraj Matanheliya and Secretary Shyam Bihari Agarwal, for their contribution to national pride and security.
A Message to the Nation by ITM GIDA Gorakhpur Girls
The Defense Rakhi is more than a gadget, it’s a message. It says that patriotism isn’t confined to uniforms and borders. It lives in classrooms, in ideas, and in the hearts of young citizens who dare to dream differently.
As India celebrates Raksha Bandhan this year, these students remind us that protection is a shared responsibility—and that even a simple thread can carry the weight of innovation and love.
